Top Decorating Tips for Landlords
Here are some tips to consider when it comes to redecorating your buy-to-let.
Keep it neutral
It can be tempting to spice things up a bit with colourful walls and vibrant furniture, but it’s best to keep redecorations neutral and provide a ‘blank canvas’ for renters to bring in their own furnishings and make it their own. People can imagine their own furniture in a room when they come to view, which helps them decide whether the property is right for them. Grey is the new magnolia!
Provide your tenants with additional paint
It’s advisable to leave some additional or leftover paint at the property after you have redecorated, in case the tenant’s need to ‘touch up’ any marks or scuffs, or freshen it up themselves – then there’s no confusion about the make and colours used.
Records and receipts
Keep records that prove when you redecorated a property and receipts of purchases like appliances, as they act as proof in case of any disputes at the end of the tenancy. with renters. They can also be used to reclaim tax in some circumstances, especially if you’re replacing a like-for-like item.
