Estate Agent Donating Mobile Phones to the Homeless
A local firm of leading property specialists is proving used mobile phones can help provide a new start for homeless young people.
Shropshire-based Nock Deighton has given 15 used mobile phones donated by staff at its offices in Telford, Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Ironbridge, and Ludlow to the Wellington and District branch of YMCA, the long-standing charity set up to support the needs of vulnerable young people.
Wellington and District YMCA provides short-term, self-contained accommodation for homeless young people in the Wellington area, and has 25 units of supported accommodation available for people aged 16-25. They will lend the mobiles to tenants without phones, so that they are able to be contacted in an emergency, and so they can contact other outside agencies and support groups.
Many of the young people have experienced great difficulties in their lives, and the YMCA supports them in achieving their full potential thanks to funding from the Governments Supporting People initiative, which is administered locally by Telford and Wrekin Council.
Graham Taylor, Finance Director of Nock Deighton, said: We are more than happy to support such a worthy cause. The YMCA in Wellington offers invaluable support for homeless and vulnerable young adults throughout Shropshire. By providing such a secure and safe environment, it gives these people, many of whom have suffered particularly challenging life experiences, a real chance of turning their lives around.
Val Mann, CEO of Wellington and District YMCA, commented: This generous donation makes sure all the young people we work with, many of whom are having to deal with complex and extremely sensitive issues, have access to a mobile phone at all times. It enables us to keep in touch with them, but also gives them the option of contacting us if, and when, they ever need any help.
Along with these mobile phones, Nock Deighton has previously donated a number of computers to our unit, and the companys ongoing support is much appreciated.
